In the early hours of 2 February 2018, ILembe Cluster Task Team and Nsuze police conducted an intelligence driven operation aimed at eradicating the spread of illegal firearms in the Nsuze policing precinct.

The operation resulted in the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of two firearms as well as dagga.

An operation was conducted in the Bhamshela and Sambaba areas where two suspects aged 21 and 31 were found in possession of two pistols with their serial numbers filed off and seven rounds of ammunition.

Suspects were charged for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Another two suspects aged 29 and 30 were arrested in Maqonqwana area after they were found in possession of dagga weighing over a kilogram. All arrested suspects appeared in the Maphumulo Magistrates’ Court.

Recovered firearms will be subjected for ballistic testing to ascertain if they were used in any other crime in the country.
