Four armed robbers arrested, Greenwood Park

On Tuesday, 9 October 2018 at 21:00, police officers at Greenwood Park conducted an operation as part of Operation Fiela. The operation was conducted at Briardene and surrounding areas. Whilst the police officers were operational they heard gunshots and spotted a speeding vehicle.

The police officers followed the vehicle with four occupants and pulled them over on North Coast Road. One of the suspect pulled out a firearm and attempted to shoot a police officer. The police officer managed to disarm the suspect and restrain him.

A 9mm pistol with six rounds of ammunition, eight cellphones and a vehicle were seized from the suspects. The four men aged between 21 and 27, were arrested for armed robbery, attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of suspected stolen property.

Whilst police were busy processing the suspects, a man arrived at the police station and reported that he was robbed by the same suspects at gunpoint while another person was also shot and robbed. The victim was taken to hospital for medical attention.

The suspects will also be profiled to establish if they are linked to any other cases reported at the Greenwood Park police station. The suspects will appear in the Durban Magistrates Court soon.
