On 25 April 2018, members from Pietermaritzburg Search and Rescue and K9 SAR recovered the body of a man who drowned in the Dusi river in Alexandra Road Park.

It is alleged that the man and his friends robbed a lady from her cell phone and ran into Alexandra Park over a foot bridge. Community members attempted to stop the suspects and one suspect then attempted to cross the river below the foot bridge and drowned.

With the assistance from K9 “Chazz”, the body was recovered at a depth of 3 meters. Alexandra Road SAPS has opened an inquest docket for investigation.
