Father sentenced to 20 years for raping his 13 year old daughter

The Camperdown Regional Court has sentenced a 37-year-old father to 20 years behind bars for raping his daughter, Kwazulu-Natal police said on Monday.

Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbhele said the father called his 13-year-old daughter, who did not live with him, to come to his house on Christmas day, 2013.

He told her a traditional healer would be there to “heal the family”.

Mbhele said when the child arrived at her father’s house, she was instructed to go to his room and told that because her mother was feeling unwell, she would have to have sex with him. He then raped her.

“After the incident the victim informed her aunt and the matter was reported to the police to Inchanga SAPS. The docket was then transferred to Pinetown Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) for further investigations,” Mbhele said in a statement.

“The suspect was arrested, appeared in court and was granted bail. On 24 September 2016 the suspect was re-arrested after he failed to appear in court. He was found hiding under his bed at his home in Inchanga and was sent back to court. He made several court appearance till he was convicted”.

Mbhele said in another incident, two men were sentenced to 20 years each for rape, and 11 years for robbery, also by the Camperdown Regional Court.

In September 2014, Msizi Xaba, 22, and Minenhle Gwala, 26, raped a 26-year-old victim who was on her way home.

They asked her if she would have sex with them and when she refused, they grabbed her, dragged her into bushes and both raped her. They also took her cellphone.
