Farmer's hand chopped off during farm attack

Four suspects, three men and a woman, viciously attacked Jaco Albertse (27) on his farm Rhino Ranch situated in Hluhluwe, KwaZulu-Natal on March 1.

Albertse was busy putting up fencing around the farm, and while in his car, the suspects pulled him out of the vehicle. Albertse managed to draw his handgun from the vehicle and when the suspects could not take the gun away, they chopped his hand with a panga.

The suspects fled with the gun into nearby bushes. Albertse was able to alert the farming community and police who rushed to the scene.

Albertse was rushed to hospital and underwent an emergency operation.

The police are investigating and the search for the suspects continues.

Initial reports indicated that Jaco Albertse’s hand was chopped off with a panga. We did receive confirmation from a family member that the hand was chopped open. Jaco was taken to hospital and operated on.
