Farm murder of the Rafferty couple, accused sentenced

On 15 November 2022, the Madadeni High Court convicted and sentenced two men for charges of murder, robbery and burglary that occurred at Normandien on 30 August 2020.

Doctor Ngwenya (20) and Sibongiseni Masondo (33) were arrested for the murder of Roy (63) and Vida Rafferty (60) at their farm.

On 30 August 2020, Normandien police were called to a murder scene where the couple was shot and killed by the same persons who also killed the family dog before they fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle.

A case of murder was opened for investigation.

The investigation led to the arrest of four men who were linked to this murder case.

Sizwe Tell Zwane (29) pleaded guilty during March 2022 and he was sentence to 60 years imprisonment.

On 22 October 2022 Siyabonga Macu (29) was murdered and a case of murder is under investigation at Dannhauser SAPS.

The remaining co-accused pleaded not guilty.

They made several appearances at Madadeni High Court where they were convicted and sentenced to two life imprisonment for two counts of murder and 15 years for each count of robbery and a further six years each for burglary.
