A farm murder took place on 23 June 2023, on a farm of Department of Correctional Service near Hattingspruit and Glencoe, in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa.
A farm foreman, Hennie Maritz, drove a white Nissan NP200 bakkie Reg NDE19636 over the said farm land he normally uses to get to the main road.
Maritz was overpowered and the bakkie was hijacked by an unknown number of attackers.
The victim was found murdered the following morning.
Police attended the scene and investigating a case of murder and robbery of the vehicle.
SAPS reported that swift police action has led to the arrest of a suspect, Thulani Mkhize (47), who was found in possession of the stolen vehicle.
The arrest of the suspect stems from the incident where Hennie Maritz was murdered and his vehicle was stolen by the suspects.
A preliminary investigation by police led them to Emafusini area where the stolen vehicle was found at a home.
Police positively identified the vehicle as the one that was taken from Hennie Maritz.
The suspect was found in possession of the vehicle keys and was arrested for being in possession of the stolen motor vehicle as well as the murder.
Mkhize exposed an accomplice in the murder, Zenzele Buthelezi, who was also detained in connection with the murder.
Both suspects made their first court appearance on 26 June 2023.
