A farm murder took place on a farm in Canelands, Verulam, in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. The Reaction Unit South Africa R44 helicopter helped in the search for a farmer and former Verulam Mayor, Manna Naidoo (74), who was reported missing on Wednesday 26 May 2022.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) was contacted by the family at 12:29 for assistance after they discovered that his home on Panere Farm was unlocked.

Four firearms were missing from the safe and his white Toyota Hilux single cab bakkie with registration NJ 777 could also be located.

Reaction Officers conducted a search of the property and located his house keys behind the premises.

The farmer lived alone.

Due to the recent floods, roads leading to the farm were extensively damaged. Reaction Officers were forced to abandon their vehicles several hundred meters away from the scene and continued on foot to the farm.

Members of RUSA and volunteers from the community continued the search on Thursday 26 May 2022. Searching an area of the farm on foot and quad bikes after two specially trained tracking dogs from Chapman Security Solutions detected a scent that was lost near a river.

The bullet riddled body of Manna Naidoo was then discovered in a cane field opposite his homestead in Canelands.

The police are investigating the murder but there have been no arrests.
