Farm burglary, twelve stolen firearms recovered, Roosboom, KZN

Members from the UThukela Cluster Detectives, Colenso SAPS and the Ladysmith K9 Unit arrested two suspects aged 30 and 39 for housebreaking and possession of suspected stolen property in the Roosboom area.

The officers were conducting an investigation into a case of burglary that occurred last week on a farm in the Colenso area.

Twelve firearms including an air rifle were stolen during the incident.

Officers worked around the clock until they arrested a man in the Roosboom area on Saturday afternoon, 28 July 2018. He was found in possession of five rifles, a revolver and a pistol as well as various assorted rounds of ammunition.

Further investigation during the course of Saturday night resulted in the recovery of another three rifles and a revolver and ammunition. Forty nine rounds of ammunition as well as other stolen property were found in the possession of the suspects.

One suspect is facing charges of housebreaking and will appear in the Weenen Magistrate’s Court, the other suspects are facing charges of possession of suspected stolen property and will appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court soon.

All the recovered firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing to establish if it were used in the commission of crimes in the country.
