Farm attack – elderly couple overpowered in Mooi River
Farmer murdered in Eastern Cape

Two suspects entered a farmhouse around 23.30 last night in the Mooi River vicinity, in KwaZulu-Natal. An elderly couple, both aged 72 heard the suspects enter their home.

The homeowner fired two shots and the suspects assaulted the owners of the farm with golf sticks and demanded money. The thugs managed to overpower the elderly couple. The perpetrators stole the firearm and fled the scene.

Fortunately, they were arrested, one suspect aged 28 was wounded and remains under police guard in hospital. The second assailant aged 40 has been detained.

Circumstances relating to the suspect’s shooting is being investigated; the wounded suspect alleges that his partner in crime shot him accidentally. The police investigation continues.

It is indeed sad; that perpetrators keep on targeting farmers. South Africa has the highest murder rate in the world and farmers are particularly singled out. Over the years, there have been thousands of farm murders around the country. It is an ongoing concern, and a significant threat to the food industry, when all the farmers are dead, South Africans will starve.
