Thousands of fans were left frustrated after a ticketing system crash disrupted sales for the highly anticipated Soweto Derby (Nedbank Cup) final at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Social media erupted with anger as supporters reported hours-long online and retail queues, with many unable to secure tickets. Questions were also raised about the choice of venue, given its 49,000-seat capacity.

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) confirmed that Open Ticket, the initial service provider, experienced a system crash due to “unprecedented demand.” A second provider, Computicket, was brought in to assist.

PSL officials acknowledged the overselling issue, assuring refunds for affected fans. “The server crashed because everyone tried accessing it at once,” a spokesperson said. “We worked to find alternate solutions.”

With tensions high, organizers now face pressure to prevent similar issues ahead of the blockbuster clash.
