Family kidnapped after home invasion, KwaMbonambi

On Monday, 21 May 2018, at 01:20, a 27 year old man of Thuthukani area in KwaMbonambi area reported a house robbery at Richards Bay 10111 Call Centre. He alleged that four unknown men carrying firearms and wearing balaclavas came to his home and robbed his 63 year old mother of her vehicle, Toyota Fortuner and took all family members with.

Richards Bay Flying Squad and Empangeni K9 members were responded to the complaint and began searching for the said vehicle. Whilst they were patrolling, they spotted the vehicle on the N2 driving to the north. A high speed chase ensued and there was an exchange of gunfire between the suspects and the police.

The chase continued until the suspects abandoned the vehicle next to Phelandaba area towards Manguzi. The suspects managed to evade the arrest when they ran to the nearby bushes. During the chase, the victims were left in the sugarcane fields next to Ezidedele area, Empangeni.

Charges of house robbery and kidnapping were opened for investigation. The police are still searching for the suspects.
