False case of child stealing, 2 woman arrested, Durban

On Friday 31 January 2020, at about 14:00, Durban Central Family violence Child protection and sexual offence unit arrested two suspects both aged (28). Both female suspects were arrested in Hluhluwe area and were charged for defeating the ends of Justice.

This arrests emanates from further investigation of a Child stealing case that was reported in Durban Central on 14 December 2019, at about 12:00.

It is alleged that on 14 December 2019, a mother took a taxi from Hluhluwe area with her friend to Durban. When they arrived in YMCA taxi rank the mother had a six months-old-baby with her and her friend had one a year old son with her. They planned the trip together in order to open a false case since the father was waiting to see his son for the first time.

After they were dropped by the taxi they went separate ways and the mother came to Durban Central to report her son being stolen by an unknown female. She stated under oath that she did not know the lady who took her son. Further investigation revealed that the child who was reported stolen was not the victims child but it was her friends son and the motive was to lie to the father because the father believed that it was his son.

An investigating officer went to Hluhluwe and found that the child who was reported stolen was in her friends homestead. Both mothers were arrested and they are appearing in Durban magistrate’s court today for Defeating the Ends of Justice.
