Explosives seized at Klipwal in Pongola

On 27 November 2019, a multidisciplinary operation was conducted in the Zululand Cluster. The operation began on the night of 27 November 2019 and continued until the early hours of 28 November 2019.

Police proceeded to a homestead at Klipwal in Pongola that was used by illegal miners. The suspects were not at the house however during a search of the home police found 23 sticks of explosives as well as a gas cylinder. A black plastic bag containing loose dagga was also recovered.

Investigations are still continuing to trace the suspects.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula commended the team for the recovery of explosives. “We also encourage the community to continue working with us in the fight against crime by reporting all criminal related incidents to the police,” he said.

“Anyone with information on criminal activities is encouraged to make use of the MySAPS App by downloading the App on any iPhone or android. Informers may call the SAPS Crime Stop number ‪086 00 10111,” he added.
