In the ongoing efforts to thwart corruption and maladministration within municipalities and the country at large the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation’s Serious Commercial Crime Investigation, Clean Audit Task team and Serious Corruption Investigation embarked on takedown operations, netting suspects for corruption, fraud and contravention of the Public Finance Management Act.

These arrests were effected in KwaZulu-Natal mainly at City of Ethekwini Municipality. The suspects are under investigation for charges relating to fraud, corruption and flaunting the prescripts of the Public Finance Management Act.

Two of the 3 suspects arrested in Ethekwini includes a juristic person charged and appeared in the Durban Specialized Commercial Crime Court.

All three accused, Akhona Ngundze, Amanda Mandy Wanda and their Zooloowood Projects were granted bail of R 6000-00 each.

The case was remanded to 27 June 2022.

“I commend the investigation teams that are involved in securing the attendance of these accused persons in court. This is a demonstration of the level of commitment by our members. Those who commit national priority offences must know that more imminent arrests are on the cards and shall be executed without fear, favour or prejudice,” the National Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya said.
