An Enforce Security Officer was killed after he and a work colleague were robbed of their firearms while guarding a reservoir in Emona, Tongaat on Tuesday afternoon 29 June 2021.
A resident in the area contacted the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Tongaat Operations Center at 20:52 reporting shots being fired near their residence. While conducting a patrol in the area Reaction Officers were flagged by an Enforce Security Officer requesting assistance for his unresponsive colleague.
RUSA Medics were dispatched to the scene and on arrival found the 51 year old lying on his back in a shipping container. He sustained a gunshot wound to his back and was declared deceased.
According to his colleague, they were tasked with guarding the reservoir when three suspects entered the premises and held them up. Their attackers deprived both Security Officers of their .38 Special revolvers and their cellphones.
During the robbery the suspects fired at least three shots before they fled on foot in an unknown direction. A 9mm bullet and three spent cartridges were recovered.
Police are investigating further.
