An elderly woman was hospitalised yesterday afternoon after she was found bound and gagged in her home on Orabie Road in Pietermaritzburg.
ER24 paramedics, along with the local authorities, arrived on the scene at approximately 14h30 after she was found by a domestic worker.
Paramedics gained access to the house and found the woman lying bound and gagged in the kitchen.
The woman was immediately freed and assessed and found to have sustained moderate injuries.
Paramedics treated the woman and thereafter transported her to Mediclinic Pietermaritzburg for further treatment.
It is understood that the woman had been assaulted and bound by an unknown man the previous night. The woman was found yesterday afternoon by the domestic worker.
Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
