On Thursday morning Netcare 911 paramedics responded to the Umzumbe beach for a man with serious injuries. Reports from the scene indicate that the man aged seventy-five was in the surf when he was hit by a freak wave.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and found that the lifeguards and some members of the public managed to pull the man from the surf and immobilise him on a trauma board. The Advanced Life Support paramedic from Netcare stabilised the patient before they transported him to a hospital in Port Shepstone for further care.
