A 65 year old man, his 62 year old wife and their domestic worker were victims of a house robbery that lasted more than 40 minutes at their home in Hazelmere – Verulam on 19 June 2017.

At approximately 11:45 members of Reaction Unit South Africa were dispatched to the home after receiving a call from a resident in the area reporting the incident. Upon arrival it was established that while conducting chores on the property the couple were approached by two African males who enquired if there were any jobs available.

One suspect then drew a firearm and forced the couple back into the home. The male victim and the domestic worker were asked to lie on the floor. While one suspect kept watch over them his accomplice escorted the female victim to the bedroom where he conducted a thorough search for valuables which lasted more than 40 minutes. The suspects stole two cellphones, a Mint 7″ tablet and a bag containing an undisclosed amount of coins.

Prior to leaving the home one suspect used a cloth to wipe his finger prints from furniture and appliances they had come into contact with. The suspects are believed to have got into a black VW Polo which was parked in the vicinity however this could not be confirmed.

The couple and their domestic worker were not injured during the robbery.
