A VW Polo was shot multiple times during an attempted hijacking on the corner of Sunlark and Oaklands Drive in Verulam on Tuesday 15 december 2020.

Residents of Oaklands contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) at approximately 14:59 reporting the attempted hijacking. All available Reaction Officers were dispatched to the call and while on route noticed the VW Polo with two occupants driving with a flat tyre past the Verulam Day Care Centre on Todd Street.

The driver indicated to RUSA Members to follow him to the Verulam SAPS. On arrival the visibly shaken driver explained that he was from an e-hailing company and had just dropped off a client when three men in a Ford Ikon attempted to forcibly stop his vehicle. One of the suspects fired multiple shots at his vehicle when he sped off.

The driver and his passenger were not injured.

Reaction Officers conducted an extensive search for the hijackers however no arrests were made.
