It has come to light that the Mayor’s “assistant” earns a salary of almost R50 000 per month, while she has no qualifications to be appointed as senior executive.

Thabisile Ncayiyane was appointed as a domestic worker two years ago but earns a senior manager’s salary. She was allegedly the mayor, Zandile Gumede, “assistant” who had to look after his needs.

A newsgroup found in a follow up investigation that nearly 7 000 ghost workers were employed.

Xolani Vilani, the administrative manager at employment, on investigation, could not show contracts of 71 workers and their wages ranged from R500 to R2000 per day instead of R130 which is the prescribed rate.

The question is now asked in whose pockets did that money really disappeared into?
