A gang of seven armed robbers stormed into a home in Glen Eagles Road after holding up a Durban North couple on their property as they arrived home on Saturday evening.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said the couple pulled into their driveway at around 9.30pm when the seven suspects, two of them armed with firearms, held them up. The gang arrived in a white Mercedes ML.
“The gang ambushed the resident as he opened the garage door, grabbing his keys, wallet, driver’s license and cash. They forced his wife out of the vehicle and pushed her away from it,” Mathios said.
“The gang then proceeded to kick down the front door of the house where they grabbed a flat screen television and loaded it into the resident’s vehicle and fled the scene. An elderly relative who was inside the house at the time of the robbery was severely traumatised by the incident. Paramedics stabilised her at the scene and transported her to hospital for further observation,” Mathios said.
Durban North SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
In a separate incident on Saturday evening, robbers reeking of alcohol ambushed and assaulted a Hillary family.
