Durban Hit by Multiple Armed Robberies on Saturday

A large number of cigarette cartons were amongst items stolen during an armed robbery in Montclair on Saturday morning.

“Customers and staff were held up at gunpoint inside the store, in Montclair by a gang of four men around 10am, on Saturday,” said Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios.

“The suspects arrived in a vehicle, entered the store and commanded the customers and staff not to move. Three of the suspects then made their way to the cash office where they forced the door open and removed a large number of various cigarette cartons. Two cellphones, a DVR and laptop were also taken before the suspects fled,” said Mathios.

No shots were fired or injuries sustained during the armed robbery.
Blue Security attended the scene as well as Montclair SAPS and investigations are ongoing.

In another incident, residents were terrorised in their home by three armed suspects in Alpine Road, Springfield on Saturday night, just after 9pm.

“These men had gained access to the property by cutting through mesh fencing. They then forced open a garage door and confronted the tenants who were sleeping in the outbuilding,” Mathios noted.

“The suspects – two of whom were armed with firearms, the third with a knife – robbed the couple of cellphones and cash. The woman managed to escape during the robbery and alert other tenants on the property, who came to their aid,” Mathios said.

“One of the suspects allegedly fired at one of the tenants who suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. It transpired that the bullet had entered and exited the limb,” stated Mathios.

“The suspects fled on foot when they saw the injured tenant lying on the ground. The injured man was stabilised and transported to a nearby hospital for further emergency treatment. Mayville SAPS and detectives attended the scene and a case of armed robbery is being investigated, “Mathios said.
