On Thursday 1 December 2022, the Durban Specialised Commercial Crimes Court convicted and sentenced Rodney Pillay (56) to seven years direct imprisonment for six counts of fraud.

During the period November 2008 and January 2011, Pillay was owning the company known as Property Image that he used to induce people to invest cash in his company.

Pillay received these monies through his bank account and utilised the funds for personal usage. Neither the capital nor the interest of these investments were paid to the investors despite their requests.

Number of cases were reported in various police stations and the case dockets were allocated to the Hawks members from Durban Serious Corruption Investigation.

He was arrested and charged for fraud and contravention of the Banks Act.

Pillay appeared in court several times until he was convicted and sentenced.

He was sentenced to seven years imprisonment for fraud and two years for contravention of the Banks Act of which two years was wholly suspended for five years.

His sentence will run concurrently.
