On 6 July 2022 at 18:00, police officers from Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit acted on an intelligence driven operation about the drugs that were being sold from a premises on 33rd Avenue in Claremont.

A sting operation was successfully put in place and the team pounced at the premises.

A search was conducted and a 43-year-old suspect was found in possession of 18 diamond ecstasy tablets, 30 umbrella ecstasy tablets, 55 small pieces of ecstasy and 14 rounds of ammunition.

The suspect was placed under arrest for possession of drugs and unlawful possession of ammunition. He appeared before the Pinetown Magistrates’ Court.

On the following day, the same team conducted a follow up operation at New Germany. The operation led to the arrest of a 53-year-old man. He was found in possession of a pistol.

A further search was conducted at the same premises resulted in the recovery of a hunting rifle, pistol, 260 rounds of ammunition and seven magazines.

The suspect was charged for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. The recovered firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing. The suspect is appearing before the Pinetown Magistrates’ Court.
