On 29 January 2017 Police Divers from Durban Search and Rescue along with IPSS Medical Rescue and Kwadakuza Fire Department and Lifeguards were called out to a drowning incident that occurred in the Mvoti River near Groutville.
A 12-year-old boy attempted to cross the river when he slipped and was swept away.
Witnesses pointed out the area where the victim was last seen.
A Dive Operation was conducted and the victim’s body was recovered from a depth of 7m.

Inquest docket opened.
