The Estcourt Regional Court sentenced Sipho Mbatha for a double murder. His sentence was handed down on 20 September 2019, and was given 26 years imprisonment.

It is alleged on 5 May 2018 just after midnight Xolani Ngcobo (34) was driving along Depot Main Road in Wembezi with Sbonelo Madlala (23) when an unknown driver drove next to them and opened fire on them. They sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the body and were declared dead at the scene.

Charges of murder were opened at Wembezi SAPS for further investigation.

An intensive investigation was conducted by the investigating officer assigned to the docket and the accused was caught in the Wembezi area. Investigations revealed that the accused had an argument earlier with one of the deceased.

A firearm used was confiscated and was positively linked to the murders. He made several court appearances until he was sentenced.
