Two dogs were rescued during a fire at a home on Deepdale Place in the Chubbies Garage area in Verulam.

At approximately 12:24 on 9 July 2018, members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the scene by residents in the area reporting a house on fire. Upon arrival Reaction Officers found a wood and iron home completely engulfed in flames. A member of public informed Officers that two dogs were tied up metres away from the fire.

Onlookers believed that the dogs would be killed due to the intense heat and smoke.

RUSA Members proceeded to a Toyota Corolla which was parked a few metres away from the home and rescued a dog that was tied to the undercarriage of the car. Officers then proceeded to the back of the home and freed a Pit Bull that was tied to a tree.

Firefighters are currently on scene and are in the process of extinguishing the blaze.

According to a 60 year old woman she was alone in the home when she noticed smoke billowing out of her veranda. Upon investigation she noticed the house had caught alight. The entire home was destroyed and two vehicles were extensively damaged in the blaze.

The cause of the fire is subject to investigation. The dogs were not injured in the fire.
