A 71 year-old doctor was hijacked for his black VW Jetta (Reg NJ 60802) after he slowed down to investigate a suspicious vehicle parked on his neighbors property on Ivy Street in Southridge, Verulam.

The victim was unaware that four suspects in the suspicious blue Ford Focus were in the process of breaking into his neighbors home. As the victim slowed down three of the suspects ran to his vehicle and held him at gunpoint. The victim was forced out of the vehicle before the suspects drove off in it followed by the Ford Focus.

Reaction Unit South Africa received a call from the victim reporting the hijacking and house break-in. The victim could not confirm if all the suspects had fled or if some of them were still in the home. Reaction Officers were dispatched to the scene and upon arrival penetrated the home to ensure that it was safe for the homeowner, who arrived a short while later, to enter. It was established that the suspects attempted to remove a Sony Plasma TV, which was mounted to a TV unit with bolts and nuts, and in the process cracked the screen. Nothing appeared to be stolen from the home and it is believed that the suspects may have been disturbed when they heard the neighbors driveway gate opening.
