On Thursday, 29 June 2023 Hawks members from Port Shepstone Serious Organised Crime Investigation arrested Sifiso Magagula (35) for dealing in an African pangolin without permit and to be in a country illegally.

Members received information about a person who was advertising pangolin scales for sale on Facebook.

An undercover operation was conducted and Magagula was arrested.

He was found in possession of full dried carcass of a pangolin.

It was further established that Magagula was a foreign national who was in the country illegally.

He briefly appeared in the Chatsworth Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 30 June 2023 and was remanded in custody.

He will reappear in the same court on Monday 3 July 2023.
