Phoenix police officers continue to make inroads into drug dealing in their police precinct since stabilization operations were launched in the province.

On 7 November 2019, police officers conducted an intelligence led operation at Everham Road in Phoenix. Police officers approached a suspect who was found stationery in his vehicle. A search was conducted and police seized 15 heroin capsules as well as 900 grams of heroin powder which were found in his possession.

The street value of the drugs that were seized is estimated at R90 000-00. A 27 year old suspect was placed under arrest for possession of drugs. He will be appearing at the Verulam Magistrates Court.

“This is once again a major breakthrough in our war on drugs and police officers at Phoenix should be commended for apprehending the suspect in the process. We appeal to communities to work with police and other government departments as well as NGO’s to deal with the scourge of our youth who are trapped in this vicious cycle of drug addiction,” said KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula.
