Two men were arrested by members of Reaction Unit South Africa after they attempted to steal a Toyota Hino truck on Russom Street in Verulam on Friday 23 November 2018.

At approximately 15:49 the RUSA Operations Center received a call from a member of public reporting a theft of motor vehicle in progress. The caller provided a description of two men who had parked their VW Polo next to the truck and were attempting to start the vehicle.

Several Reaction Officers were dispatched to the scene and upon arrival surrounded the truck and the suspects getaway vehicle. Both suspects attempted to flee on foot but were apprehended by RUSA Members. The suspects were found in possession of car breaking implements.

The one suspect is currently on parole for house robbery. In October 2017 he was arrested by Reaction Officers after he and three other accomplices attempted to steal an Isuzu bakkie in Oaklands.

During a high speed chase there was an exchange of gunfire between the suspects and Reaction Officers. Two suspects were arrested following the shootout. The second suspect was shot in the chest during a hijacking in Hammarsdale, KZN a few years ago.

Both suspects were placed under arrest and are currently detained at the Verulam SAPS.
