One member was lucky to survive after bullets struck his vest while trying to apprehend the gunman, who allegedly opened fire from inside a shack under the cover of darkness.
The operation was carried out by the eThekwini District Trio Tracking Team, with SAPS Crime Intelligence and ET Security.
The suspect was wanted for killing a 39-year-old father while his wife – who was also shot and 3-year-old daughter were in the room.

The suspect managed to gain access to the family’s third-floor unit at a block of flats on Mansel Road, Durban.
The husband and wife were both shot in the head.
She was left in a critical condition, while he passed away at the scene.
