On the morning of 27 January 2018, at 06:00, the Provincial Drug unit members were conducting their crime prevention duties when they received intelligence driven information about drugs at Newlands West.
The members intensified their operation and identified the said house at Glad Hill Crescent, Newlands West.
The said house was searched and more than 50 bags full of dry dagga were recovered with the street value of more than R400 000-00. The members also recovered the total cash of R54 000-00 suspected to be the proceeds of drug trade.
Three suspects aged between 25 and 49 were arrested and charged for dealing in drugs. The preliminary investigation conducted at the scene revealed that the suspects transported dagga from Swaziland, using their bakkie that was found at the scene.
The arrested suspects will appear in the Durban Magistrates’ Court on Monday 29 January 2018.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Bheki Langa commended the members for the work they have done in arresting three alleged dagga dealers. “It has been noticed that for the past few days the team made a breakthrough in arresting drug dealers in the Province. Recently a multidisciplinary approach arrested eight suspects at Phoenix area for dealing in drugs. An appeal is made once again to the community members to continue providing valuable information to the police about any drug dealing and other criminal activities,” he said.
