21 year old Luyanda Mzemzla who was apprehended by members of the public on Wick Street, Verulam on 26 November 2018, after he was pointed out by a victim who was robbed on Sunday 24 November 2018.

At approx 08:52 Reaction Unit South Africa receive multiple calls from the public requesting assistance after a robbery suspect was spotted by the complainant. Reaction Officers arrived on scene and found the suspect seated in the rear of a delivery bakkie. According to the female victim, the suspect had robbed her of her Nokia mobile phone at a garage the previous day. At the time of the incident she was on WhatsApp replying to a message.

Reaction Officers interviewed the suspect who eventually informed officers that the phone was sold for R250 to a businessman who owns a salon near the Verulam Bus Rank.

The suspect was taken to the bus rank where he pointed out the buyer. The Nokia 2 was recovered by Reaction Officers.

Mzemzla has been convicted for housebreaking and was released from Westville Prison on 9 Of November 2018. He has a five year suspended sentence and several pending criminal cases. He resides in Emona, Tongaat and is a habitual criminal.

He can be identified by a tattoo on his right arm with the words “LUYANDA”. The suspect is usually armed with a knife or a screwdriver and is considered dangerous.
