South African Police Service in KwaZulu-Natal conducted successful operations during the night of 12 September 2017, at Umlazi and Dududu which led to the recovery of eight firearms with ammunition as well as the arrest of six suspects.

The suspects were arrested following intelligence of their involvement in politically related violence, taxi related violence and armed robberies.

The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa commended the police officers involved for their dedication and commitment in eradicating illegal firearms in the province. “These arrests are very significant especially in light of the current situation in the Province. It is very important that these weapons have been seized and that these suspects have been arrested. Our detectives will be working around the clock to link these individuals to various crimes within the province,” he said.
