Detectives from KwaMsane conducted an intelligence driven operation on 24 April 2022, where they were searching for the robbery suspects. The operation yielded positive results when they arrested a 29-year-old suspect at Emanguzi for armed robbery.

It is alleged that on 10 April 2022 at 10:00, a group of armed men, entered into the church during the church service where they robbed the congregants of their belongings including their cell phones.

The suspects demanded one of the congregant’s car keys and kept the churchgoers captive in a vehicle belonging to another congregant. The suspects then fled the scene in a vehicle owned by a congregant.

The vehicle has not been found as yet.

Charges of robbery, carjacking and kidnapping were opened at KwaMsane police station for investigation.

The suspect will be profiled to check if he is linked to other robbery and carjacking cases where the similar modus operandi was used. More arrests are expected as investigations still unfold.

The arrested suspect is expected to appear before the KwaMsane Magistrates Court today for charges of robbery, carjacking and kidnapping.
