On Tuesday 5 March 2019, members of the SAPS Chatsworth Task Team acted swiftly when they received information of alleged drug dealing in Chatsworth. The information was immediately operationalised.

The team conducted observation on a premises in Westcliff, Chatsworth. They spotted a vehicle fitting the description given by an informant. Police intercepted the vehicle and a search was conducted. Police arrested a 43 year old suspect after seizing 600 capsules of heroine with a street value of R 12 000,00.

The suspect will appear at the Chatsworth Magistrates Court in court soon on charges of dealing in heroin.

In another breakthrough, the Chatsworth Task Team followed up information on the whereabouts of a suspect wanted for carjackings in the Ethekwini Inner South Cluster. The team conducted observations in the Westcliff area of his possible hideouts and spotted a man fitting the description of the suspect. Police immediately apprehended the suspect.

It is alleged that on 9 January 2019, a delivery company was hired by the suspect to remove goods from Kharwastan to Croftdene. The suspect lured the complainant on the pretext of hiring his delivery services. Whilst in the Croftdene area the suspect threatened the complainant with a firearm and deprived the driver of the vehicle.

Police have intensified their investigations linking the modus operandi to cases of carjacking in the Chatsworth, Malvern and Bayview areas.
