Chatsworth pastor and congregants robbed and locked up by armed men

Two men armed with a knife and firearm robbed a Chatsworth pastor and congregants and then locked them in a room during a church meeting on 17 February 2019.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said church members and pastor who had gathered at a premises near Higginson Highway were held up and robbed at around 8.30pm.

“The door to the premises was open and two suspects, armed with a knife and a firearm, walked in and held up the pastor and around six church members. They robbed them of cash, cellphones, a laptop and other valuables,” Mathios said. “The suspects locked the pastor and congregants inside the room and fled towards Higginson Highway. No injuries were reported.”

Chatsworth SAPS attended the scene of the crime.

Mathios added that four armed robbers held up staff at a business premises in Joe Slovo Road in the CBD at around 9.20am yesterday.

“Three suspects, two of them armed with firearms and one armed with a knife, entered the shop where they held up staff and robbed them of cash, watches, cellphones and other valuables. They fled the scene in a silver grey Toyota Avanza, in which the fourth suspect had been waiting outside the store. No injuries were reported,” Mathios said.

Durban Central SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
