After two months of exhaustive investigations, Chatsworth police made a breakthrough in a kidnapping case. On 22 August 2019, a 28 year old suspect was arrested for her involvement in the kidnapping. She appeared in the Chatsworth Magistrates Court on 26 August 2019, and was remanded into custody until next week Monday.

Following further investigations, the two remaining suspects (22 & 36) were arrested at Hammarsdale. Police officers seized a licensed firearm with ammunition as well as a vehicle suspected to be used during the kidnapping.

Police officers discovered human remains suspected to be that of the kidnapped person, in a sugarcane field at Camperdown. A case of murder was opened at the Camperdown police station while the investigation continues. The two suspects will appear in the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court soon.

It is alleged that in July 2019, the victim was kidnapped from Westcliff in Chatsworth by persons who demanded a ransom from his family. The desperate family transferred a sum of money into a bank account. The kidnapper however did not release the victim.
