On the afternoon of 20 December 2019, vigilant police officers in Berea arrested a business robbery suspect. The suspect will be charged for robbery and defeating the ends of justice. He will appear in the Durban Magistrates Court soon.

It is alleged that on 20 December 2019 at 09:20, three unknown men entered a business premises on Musgrave Road and accosted the employees at gunpoint. They allegedly robbed them of an undisclosed amount of cash; watches and an employee’s bag.

They then fled in their getaway vehicle.

A case of business robbery was opened at the Berea police station for investigation. Whilst police were busy with the investigation, an unknown man arrived at the police station to report that his vehicle was hijacked. Police officers recognized the man as one of the robbery suspects caught on CCTV cameras.

The vehicle used in the robbery was recovered last night in Chesterville. The suspect was immediately detained by police.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula commended the police officers for their alertness. “This incident serves as a stern warning to criminals who think that they can easily fool us with their tactics to evade justice,” he said.
