A Katlehong businessman has been hospitalised after he was hijacked, kidnapped, and assaulted by three men at his Ulundi home in northern KwaZulu-Natal, police said on Saturday.
Ulundi police spokeswoman Captain Nkosie Gwala said the 40-year-old man had arrived home on Saturday morning and was confronted by three armed men waiting for him inside the property.
“The victim was taken to Richards Bay and back to Ulundi where he was twice forced to withdraw money from his business accounts. He was then taken to the bushes near Ulundi Airport where he was severely assaulted,” she said.
“An operation was co-ordinated and police, together with Melmoth traffic officers, managed to track the whereabouts of the victim and take him to safety.”
The suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of cash and the victim’s Isuzu bakkie. A case of carjacking, kidnapping, and assault was being investigated. The victim was badly assaulted and taken to Nkonjeni Hospital for treatment, Gwala said.
