Bus overturned and crashed down an embankment, at least 4 fatalities

Paramedics and Doctors from the Department of Health were on scene managing and coordinating the emergency. Reports are that the bus has crashed down an embankment on 5 December 2016.

Sadly there are at least 4 fatalities as a result of the crash. Paramedics were working together to treat multiple patients at the scene.

At least four people have sustained critical injuries and fire fighters from EThekwini fire department are using the Jaws of Life to extricate these patients while paramedics stabilise them as they were still entrapped in the bus.
The Department of Health’s EMS helicopter has also landed at the scene.

The west bound lanes of the M1 near Savannah Park are closed. KZN EMS spokesman, Robert McKenzie said, “We appeal to motorists to please not drive in the emergency lanes and to allow emergency vehicles to easy pass.

The scene is ongoing and we will update with more information as it becomes available.”
Two presumed dead and scores injured in Higginson Highway bus crash.

Paramedics from ER24 and numerous other services were on the scene along the M1 Higginson Highway in Chatsworth where a bus overturned and crashed down an embankment.

Rescue workers on the scene indicated that at least two people have been killed and four are in a critical condition. They were attending to approximately 70 people with injuries ranging from minor to moderate at the moment. A triage station has been erected on the scene to assess and treat all the patients.

An emergency helicopter has been called to the scene to assist.

Two people were trapped in the bus and rescue workers were using hydraulic rescue tools to free them from the overturned wreckage.
