A suspect was shot and killed after he attempted to deprive a Reaction Officer of his firearm in Phoenix, KZN on Sunday 27 January 2019.
At approximately 22:34 the Reaction Unit South Africa Operations Centre in Phoenix received a call from a resident of Eastbury Drive in Eastbury, Phoenix requesting assistance after a suspect had entered his property. A RUSA Member was dispatched to the scene and upon arrival found an unknown male attempting to forcefully gain entry into the premises.
The Officer called for backup when he was violently attacked by the suspect. A scuffle ensued and the suspect attempted to deprive the Reaction Officer of his firearm. The back up RUSA Members arrived at the scene and found the suspect with the first responder on the ground wrestling for the firearm.
The back up Officer fired two rounds which struck the suspect on his side. The suspect died at the scene a short while later.
The injured Reaction Officer is currently receiving medical attention.
