Building contractors held at gunpoint during home invasion

Building contractors working on a property in High Ridge Road in Durban North were held up at gunpoint during a home invasion on 4 July 2017.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said a gang of four suspects driving a blue VW Golf had arrived at the property at around 11.30am.

“The suspects held up the contractors and fled in the home owner’s vehicle with televisions, DVD’s, jewellery, bottles of alcohol and the contents of a safe which they had forced open,” Mathios said.

Mathios advised home owners to brief contractors to be security conscious when working on site. “Contractors sometimes fall into a habit of leaving driveway gates and front doors open for long periods of time once they have finished carrying their tools and building materials inside, leaving the property vulnerable to opportunistic criminals. Make sure that gates and doors are locked as soon as the workers are all safely on site,” he said.
