On 4 February 2019, Gundane Dube (38) was seated in his vehicle at Mpembeni Reserve when he was attacked by unknown people who opened fire and fatally wounded him. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds. A case of murder was opened at Esikhaleni police station for further investigation.

The suspects had heard that police were working tirelessly to bring the culprits to book causing one suspect, Tholithemba Makhaya (32) to hand himself over to the police on 9 February 2019. He appeared in the Esikhaleni Magistrate’s Court on 11 February 2019 and the case was remanded to 18 February 2019 for bail application

On the afternoon of 14 February 2019, Esikhaleni Police made a breakthrough when they arrested a second suspect, Justice Ngwane (36) at Richards Bay.

He appeared in the Esikhaleni Magistrate Court and was remanded in custody until 18 February 2019, where he will join his co-accused.
