Body of another murder victim discovered on cane farm, Canelands

The body of an unidentified man was discovered by employees of a farm dumped in a bush in the vicinity of the Hazelmere Umgeni Water Treatment Plant off Vincent Dickinson Road in Canelands on Saturday 11 July 2020.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received reports of the discovery at approximately 12:01. On arrival Reaction Officers and Medics were escorted to the bush in the centre of a sugar cane plantation.

The body of a man was found approximately 15 meters off an unpaved road. He sustained a gunshot wound to the face which exited the back of his head. Blood and a grey woolen hat was found next to the unpaved road. It appears as if the deceased was dragged from the road to where his body was located. His pants was found below his knees.

This is the second body discovered in recent months by cane cutters on the farm. On March 21, 2020 RUSA was contacted after workers discovered the body of a man while cutting cane. The body was in an advanced stage of decomposition.

Police are on scene and a case of murder is being investigated.
