A barman was killed after an altercation broke out between himself and a patron at a hotel in the Verulam CBD this afternoon.
At approximately 15:26 members of Reaction Unit South Africa were dispatched to Thompson Lane after receiving reports of the stabbing.
Upon arrival a man was found lying on the ground bleeding excessively from a stab wound to his chest. He showed no signs of life and was declared dead on arrival by paramedics. The suspect had left the scene however handed himself over to the police.
It is alleged that the deceased was a barman at a hotel on Wick Street in Verulam. An altercation broke out between himself and the accused when the barman allegedly drew a knife and attempted to stab the suspect who managed to disarm him.
When the accused and three of his friends left the bar, the deceased followed them and attempted to retrieve his knife. A fight once again broke out between the two resulting in the accused stabbing the deceased.
A case of murder is being investigated.
