Bank robbery attempt at Verulam Capitec Bank

At approx 11:50 members of Reaction Unit South Africa were dispatched to Capitec Bank on Wick Street, Verulam in Kwazulu Natal after several callers reported a Bank Robbery in progress.

One of the callers was a employee at the bank who reported an armed suspect inside the premises.

Reaction Officers who arrived on the scene were informed that a suspect attired in a blue overall jacket, blue jeans and a brown striped shirt walked into the bank and forced open a glass door.

The suspect then drew a knife and demanded money. He then instructed her to open the safe and hand him all the cash.

The teller then requested the safe code from a colleague who became suspicious. The suspect then ran out of the bank and was followed by another young male who was standing outside the premises.

According to witnesses the suspects were both African males approx 21 years old that fled in the direction of the Verulam railway line on Groom Street.

Two tellers were treated for shock on scene.
