While winter may have cast her icy spell over the rest of South Africa, the temperature along the East Coast is heating up with the return of the Ballito Pro 2017 festival!
Now in its 49th year of long rolling waves, FREE live stage entertainment and competitive surf action between elite surfers from across the seven seas, locals are encouraged to make their way to the Willard Beach in Ballito and experience the fun.
In between supporting the surfers, you can also fill your belly, quench your thirst and peruse the stalls at the bustling marketplace. Although there are no ATMs at the market, Zapper has made sure that you can shop ‘til you drop without the need for cash or card.

If you’re looking for good food, you don’t have to look far. The mouth-watering scent of La Piazza’s tender lamb on a spit is the Pied Piper for empty bellies. Their delicious lamb rolls in a decadent basting sauce, specialised bakery products and ice-cream will cure any craving and leave you asking for more.
Slush Puppie
If you thought a Slush Puppie only went well with popcorn and a movie, think again! The Slush Puppie stand is right next to the live music stage, for easy access to a drink while you dance. Try one of their 6 delicious flavours and add a twist – bubbles! These tiny bursts of flavour will tantalise your taste buds and quench your thirst.
Tornado Twisters
If your palate is spiralling out of control for something tasty and new, try out the Tornado Twisters. These proudly South African chips on a stick are 40cm long; the tallest, tastiest and most wallet-friendly chips in the world. The potatoes are cut into a spiral using a specialised slicing machine and stretched out along the stick before being deep fried.
